I need to import a file from a non ACAD product.
It is topography. I was told I can get it it Parasolid and asked if I wanted it in text or binary.
Which one do I want and will I be able to manipulate it once I have it in Inventor?

Looks like you can Import either.

From Help:

Importing Parasolid files

Open and change models created in Parasolid (up to version 20.0). Autodesk Inventor translates assembly and part files, solids, multi-solids, surfaces, and more. After the import operation is complete, you have a base feature or features which match the geometry and topology of the original file. Use Autodesk Inventor commands to adjust the base features and add new features to the feature tree.

These types of Parasolid files can be imported:

*.x_t (text)

*.x_b (binary)

After changing the file, you can continue to open it in Autodesk Inventor.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Ryan

If it is typography, then more than likely it is probably surface data.
Do you know what the original software used is? Inventor 2010 handles a
lot of native formats which might work better than a Parasolid file.
Inventor supports Parasolid text and binary files as well.

The native format is ESRI GRID. I do not no anything about these types of files, but the author claims it can be exported into a number of other formats. I need to know which will be best for importing into INVENTOR.
