I see this a lot since we moved to 2010. A message pops up that says the following:

Unable to create Direct3D memory objects because of limited available video memory. Please try using a smaller window size or save your work and restart. You may also try the Direct3D Software Renderer.

Then I select OK and it gives me the following:

Direct3D 9 graphics hardware initialization failed.
Switch to use software graphics.
You may change back to Direct3D 9 graphics hardware later.

I don't understand why I am getting this message when sometimes I am just opening a simple part file and the meter in the bottom right hand corner is barely green. Can anyone give me some insight?

this is a video card memory error
the green bar is for your system memory totally different from video memory
your graphics card isn't powerful enough for inventor

I had something similar happen a few times, then shortly thereafter I had a blue screen complaining about video memory.

Dell replaced the video card on my M90, haven't seen it since.

Is this on a Dell M90, M6300, or M6400?

This is the kind of error I started to get before my graphics card failed on my M90.
