What is the better method to use the conduit tools ?
I tried to create a default.wdw file with 3 datas for every line (layer name; gauge label; diameter of the wire), but every time I insert a gauge label and modify the setup, the third data disappears !
In all cases, I don't see where this third data is used by ACE.
I work with ACE 2010

The diameter of the wire is only used if you have also populated the .ww1 file. Here is some text from the Help topic related to these 2 conduit support files. Basically, if each wire included in the conduit marker is found in the .wdw file with a defined diameter, the wire diameters are used to calculate the percentage filled for the conduit sizes in the .ww1 file.
Hope this helps, Pat Murnen
Overview of conduit marker support files
AutoCAD Electrical has a couple of support files containing wire size information and conduit size information: the .wdw file and the .ww1 file. These files are simple text files that can be edited with any text editor such as WordPad.
.WDW file The .WDW file contains the wire information. You may have a different file for each project. Create a projname.wdw file and put in the same directory as your project file (.WDP). To use the same file for all projects, create or modify the DEFAULT.WDW file in the USER folder. In the Project Manager, right-click the project name and select Settings to find the full path.
There should be a separate line in the file for each AutoCAD Electrical wire layer. The line has three fields, each field separated by a semi-colon.The first field is the actual wire layer name used on the drawing. The second field is the wire layer description. This description is used in the AutoCAD Electrical Wire Color/Gauge Label tool. The third field is the wire size.
For example, if you have a wire layer called 14_RED_THHN and you want the wire color/gauge label to read #14AWG RED for this layer, and the wire itself has a wire diameter of 0.0087, the line in the .WDW file would read:
14_RED_THHN;#14AWGRED;0.0087
.WW1 file The .WW1 file contains the conduit information. You may have a different file for each project. Simply create a projname.ww1 file and put in the same directory as your project file (.WDP). If you want to use the same file for all projects, then create or modify the DEFAULT.WW1 file in the USER folder (in the Project Manager, right-click the project name and select Settings to find the full path).
There should be a separate line in the file for each conduit. Each line has two fields. The first field is the conduit size that is shown in the Conduit Marker dialog box. The second field is the conduit size (the inner cross-sectional area of the conduit) so AutoCAD Electrical can determine how full the conduit is once you add up all the wire diameter sizes from the wires (pulled from the .WDW file). For example, if you have a 1-inch conduit with an inner diameter of 0.8 resulting in a cross-sectional area of 0.5024, the line in the .WW1 file reads:
1";0.5024
Note If you create a .WW1 file AutoCAD Electrical shows only the conduits listed in this file in the Conduit Marker dialog box. wrote in message news:6284883@discussion.autodesk.com... What is the better method to use the conduit tools ?

Thanks Pat,
But I read the help topics before I question the group. And I confirm that my .wdw file is modified (the third data for the diameter of wire is erased) when I insert a gauge label.

What about the .ww1 file? No default is supplied with AutoCAD Electrical.

Hello Pat,
What do you mean ? I can create a default.ww1 file in the project directory. ACE opens it and display the lines I created.
I attach a file to explain that the third parameter disappear in the wdw file when I insert a gauge.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you meant that the value was ignored and the conduit fill percentage was not calculated. But you are saying that one of the commands actually removes the value from the file when it is run? Can you tell me what version of AcadE you are using? And can you provide the exact sequence of steps/commands that you perform? This way I can try and reproduce it.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, Pat Murnen

I tried it with ACE 2010 SP1 French and English version.
First, I create a default.wdw file in the project directory (3 lines like in my previous picture). Then, in ACE, I insert gauge on a wire (it can be a wire described in the default.wdw file or not). Before I select the wire, I click on the setup button, then on the OK button.
Next, I reopen the default.wdw file and it is as the right part of my previous picture.
Tanks for your advice.
