Parametric Assembly, Is this possible?

I am creating a frame (not from frame generator) and I need to make it parametric based on the height needed. So basically I need the height to drive some features like adding cross bars the taller the frame gets or removing them if the frame becomes shorter. Is there a way to do this? The frame is a simple rectangle and is about 5 ft long by 3 ft wide and 13 feet tall. I need to have a cross brace every 3-4 ft along the height. Thanks in advance for your help.

You didn't state what version of Inventor you are using? Why not use Frame Generator?
Other techniques Skeletal modeling - Derived Components Multi-body Solids
Top-down adaptive assembly modeling.

Thanks for the response, I am using Inventor 2009. Frame generator is not completely out of the question I could use it too but I didnt start with it.

2009 does not have multi-body solids so that won't work either. I could use it too but I didn't start with it... Then there is no guarantee that you can use skeletal/derived components without starting over. Why can't you start over and do it right? I have proven here time and again that it is often much faster to simply start over with what you learned from the first attempt. Can you attach what you have so far? The solution might be something as simple as some parmetric dimension formulas.

I am more than willing to start over. I just didnt have it modeled in frame generator. I could use frame generator if I have to, I am not that far into it anyway. Wouls you like a CAD file or a picture?

Wouls you like a CAD file or a picture? Inventor is not a very good picture editor.

I haven't played around with frame generator that much. So that could be the best way.
If you used skeletal models & parts etc.. you might be able to set up the features in the parts using conditional suppression based on a driven height parameter. I have done this successfully with lots of different types of models, you just haev to bend your mind around it. It would be so much easier for this kind of thing if Inventor had conditional suppression on parts in assemblies as well.
Having not played with it yet i can't say for sure. But from what i have read and understand, the iLogic add on for 2009 would do what you need with ease.
But again the frame generator may be the simplest option.

You can do it using iAssembly, subject the height of the structure can be specified up-front. For the assembly as simple as yours all you need is to create a single ipart. Then you will be able to create any (separate!) configurations you want. I would have sent you a sample of the frame but the files are IV2010. Regards, Igor.

Here it is. In assembly file every time you select new configuration don't forget to run "Rebuild All" (Ctrl+R) It's a little "convenience" of the software. Regards, Igor.
