You can draw the sketch on the plane and then project using 3D sketch project OR Emboss the sketch on the plane. Again the file or picture will help as JD asks for.

I have attached a file of the solid cylinder with the sketch projected on to its surface.I want to extrude that shape on the cylinder up by 15mm.I cannot seem to extrude it.Can it be extruded this way or do i need to use a different stratergy? Thank you
I noticed that Sketch2 was not fully constrained and started to fix it up when I also noticed that these lines are not tangent to arc as I might expect. Is this really what you want? (see attached)
In the process of constraining your sketch some of the dimensions don't make sense. Can you properly dimension the sketch or indicate if it is as intended so that I can be sure of the design intent?
I'm not sure I understand the purpose of the 3D sketch. An Extruded feature is always the profile of a 2D sketch so a 3D sketch is not needed. (see attached) Or did you really intend a Loft?
Yes that is exactly what i was after...I created the same feature on the cylinder but without the split command...How did you use the Split command and will it make the shape better?I could not see how you used the Split feature.. I did not use measurements or constraints as i just sent the shape i was trying to create for reference..i will now use correct measurements when i create the shape on the cylinder.. Thanks for the help..much appreciated
