Get Previous vs. Get Latest

In Vault Explorer, I want to retrieve a top level assembly of a model including all library files. "Get Latest" does not retrieve library files, but "Get Previous", picking the latest version, does. Why do these 2 commands behave differently when operating on the same version? Why does "Get Latest" not retrieve library files?
So as a work around I've been using "Get Previous" as described above, but it is not trouble free either. Let's say I already have most of the files in my working folder prior to executing "Get Previous", with white circles indicating they are already up to date. I execute "Get Previous" on the top level assembly (option to include children selected). Some of the child icons turn to red circles. So I try "Get Latest" on the top assembly, and they turn white again. ??

Hello,
Thanks for your posting.
Could you let we know what version of Vault are you working on? If you use Vault 2010, then you can try use Check out to get the file to the working folder, there will be an setting option:'Include library file' available.
Regards,
Polo

Thanks for the quick response.
I'm using Vault 2010. When I click the "Settings" button on the "Get Latest" dialog I only see options for "Include Children", "Include Parents" and sub to that "Direct Parents Only". There is no option to include Library files.

I've done some digging to answer my own question, at least in part. By trial and error I've been able to determine that the behaviour of "Get Previous" and "Get Latest" differs in the following way: "Get Previous" gets versions of the children as per the parent assembly (which if not updated may refer to older child versions) where as "Get Latest" gets the latest version of every file, regardless of what version the parent assembly is pointing to. Hence the red circles after performing "Get Previous" on a not-up-to-date top level assembly vs white circles when performing "Get Latest".
Can someone confirm that this understanding is correct?
So back to the original issue, if the option to retrieve library files when using "Get Latest" existed I wouldn't have to mess with "Get Previous" at all, unless I did indeed want to retrieve a previous version.

Yes, you are correct, we have noticed this and will try to resolve it. Beside the workaround you mentioned, you can try use 'Check out' command to get all the latest file to the working folder(this will avoid the red circles), there will be an setting option:'Include library file' available, see attachment.

Could you give a rough estimate of when this issue might be addressed? Will there be a hotfix?

This is most likely not something that can be addressed in a hot fix.
