What files to copy?

I am currently using AE 2009 and have the opportunity to load AE 2010 on a new desktop computer. What files do I need to copy over and then migrate into AE 2010? All of the default paths were left as is on the AE 2009 install and the default catalogs and plc data has been modified as we have been going along.

Are there any reference materials which would give this list?

Thank you in advance

Todd

Don't uninstall 2009. Install 2010 and run the Migration Utility. It allows you to select anything that needs to be merged into version 2010.

Currently AE 2009 is located on one desktop, however when I get the new desktop up and running I plan to load AE 2010 on the new computer. Can I still migrate the settings even though they reside on different physical computers?

Thanks,

Todd

The Migration Utility will automatically find files that can be merged from a previous version on the same PC. If the files are located on another PC, you might try selecting the Custom option in the Migrate From box at the upper left of the Migration Utility dialog. This allows you to specify a path to a different file that could be located somewhere else, for example on a network drive or CD. If you have added to or modified the default_cat.mdb file, where the vendor part data is stored you would want to select this file as the source under the Catalog Lookup catagory. Common files that are often modified by a user, and thus would be candidates for forward migration, are the default_cat.mdb (Catalog Lookup), the wd.env (Environment File) the Footprint_Lookup.mdb (footprint lookup database), and the Symbol Menus. If you have not modified any of your symbol menus, then there will be no need to check this category in the migration utility dialog. So just select the catagories that you think have been modified in your previous version and set the source path to the file from the previous version. It could be on a network location or a thumb drive, CD, etc.
