Morning all. Wondering if anyone is successfully running Windows 7 with Inventor Series 2008. I am currently running Vista 64bit Home Prem. and want to upgrade to Windows 7 because, well Vista is worthless.
Any input would be great.
Thank you!

I installed Inventor Suite 2009 and AutoCAD 2009 Mechanical on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
Installation worked, Software is also working, But i don't have made any big tests right now. Is only a test if it works generally.

Standalone or network version? I can't get license from the XP server with Windows 7 64bit clients. "BBS_mleipert" 写入消息 news:6276071@discussion.autodesk.com... Network version, but with Windows 2003 Server for License Management.

We have installed Inventor Professional 2009 (network version) on Windows 7 - 64 bits without any problem. One item which is not working, is the Excel connection to edit an Ipart. Can somebody make a test and confirm this isue?
Thx,
Robbert

Wow, Iv 20008 :o (jk)
Been posted on here a few times - Win7 isn't officially supported so don't expect it to work flawlessly and if there are any problems it is unlikely you'll get any support.
Some people have posted a few issues with Iv2010 & Win7, so bound to be more with Iv2008. The general advice on here is to wait 'til Autodesk release a version of Inventor that officially supports Win7 before upgrading. Whether that's Iv2011, 2012, or a service patch for 2010 - unlikely they'll release a service patch for Iv2009 or earlier.
Hate to say it, but would suggest holding your horses and wait it out a bit. There's cutting edge and wanting to use a new sparkling OS, but there's bleeding edge and finding your company productivity has been affected.

Thank you greatly for your thoughts. Yes, Inv 2008... I know. Due to the economy we usually do upgrades every 2 years, but we cut back and this is the result.
I am so fed up with the tendancies of Vista between the loss of printer use and not to mention the countless other problems with it. As a microsoft partner I have been waiting for the "fix" for the Vista OS and I truely believe Win7 is it, and hoping I could run Inv 2008 on it.
I suppose I could always do an uninstall if needed, but ready to move forward with a better solution.
Thank you again for your thoughts.... I guess I will cross my fingers, close my eyes and see what happens!

you should probably install and run Windows 7 RC and test out inventor 2008 before you install the full version of Win 7 but this is just a suggestion

tbh, sounds like the dislike with Vista is primarily with lack of driver support. Why would it be any better with Win7? A quick Google search implies Win7 can use Vista drivers if native ones don't exist - so if they don't exist for Vista there's probably a snowballs chance in hell they'll exist for Win7.
would certainly suggest backing up your exiting install and placing Win7 on a new partition (or, for the cost of a new hard disk, just buy one, leaving your existing one in a secure place) - at least that way you can use Win7 if it works, but simply swap back to your existing OS & software install if there's a show-stopping problem. More work up-front but will save many problems/curse-words if you need to re-format and re-install Vista and all programs if there's a need to roll-back (which, to be fare, probably more than likely with Iv2008).
I'm not bashing the new OS, it sounds like a great improvement over Vista - but still stand by my concerns of jumping ship too early (and remember a number of complaints on here from Vista users wanting support with their old Inventor software when they changed over without realising it wasn't supported at the time).

This is second hand...I have a techie friend who's been working with the beta of 7 for a while now. He says that the XP emulation mode in Windows 7--which is apparently a download, and not in the box--works really well. From what I was told, that means that you can use 32 bit XP drivers from within Windows 7, and also run XP apps that wouldn't otherwise run in the new OS. Whether its robust enough to run something like Inventor in XP emulation mode is another question. I'm not sure I'd want to be the first one to try that in a production environment.
I'll be picking up a version of 7 in a few days. This ought to be interesting...

afaik the XP mode is only available in the higher version - just a heads up in case people are planning to order the cheaper verison(s). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspxas to whether it'll help at all, personally letting the eager ones try it and report back... Also, your CPU needs to be capable to do hardware virtualization.

Autodesk announced today, October 22, that they will be supporting Inventor 2010 (all versions) on Windows 7. They did not mention any support for older versions. -- Dennis Jeffrey, Autodesk Inventor Certified Expert Autodesk Manufacturing Implementation Certified Expert. Instructor/Author/Sr. App Engr. Tel. If they only support older versions when running XP Mode then they will have a whole bunch of unhappy customers.
XP Mode works but it does not have the snappy feel to it, and all of the OS improvements are not available.

If you use Win7 64-bit you have 64-bit. The virtual XP Mode is only 32-bit and has all problems a virtual machine has. Less memory, less performance with graphic cards and so on...
I don't want to use XP x64, cause it's not the best 64-bit solution. And my company is in the changover from 32 to 64-bit. so Win7 is tantalizing.
But i don't recommend to use Autcad or Inventor in a Virtual Machine like XP Mode.

Autodesk does not support 2008 on Win 7. Windows Xp64 and Vista 64 work fine with 2008 SP1. I'm running Windows 64 without ANY issues.. Your statement below is incorrect. Your statement below is incorrect.
Why? The windows XP Mode which i have here on my Win7 64-bit is only 32-bit. And its only a special form of Virtual PC 2007, so the available Memory is configurable. Why should run an AutoCAD 32-bit in a virtual machine better, than outside of it with 64-bit?
