Recent ADR2008 thru 2010 issues

In the last few days we've had random machines suddenly having problems firing various versions of Design Review (2008 thru 2010). It is hit and miss throughout our 20 offices. Myself for instance can fire ADR 2009 on one machine fine, but ADR 2010 on another, hit the icon (or double-click a DWF) and no response, yet designreview.exe shows in Task Manager. Other machines, half of the initial opening screen appears or you get a few panels and toolbars appear and then the program just freezes. Also machines with older 2008 installs are not responsive. One machine in particular I unstalled/reinstalled 2008, 2009 and 2010 and none "worked".

We did not have this problem early last week (or I in CAD support would've heard about it) and I did fire 2010 on the machine fine last week. My suspicion is possibly a Windows update, anti-virus update, etc. we as a company stay on top of those religiously. All ADR updates and hotfixes that are available have been installed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

We have seen where there can be problems installing ADR if there was a previous version of the product on the machine. Please follow the steps below to clear the machine of all prior releases:

1) Remove all versions of ADR using Add/Remove Programs.
2) Make sure the following folders are deleted:

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Autodesk Design Review
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\DWF Common

3) Do a search for any files or folders containing the terms "ADR" or "Design Review" and delete them off the machine.
4) Delete any old DWF viewers that may be on the machine.
5) Remove the following registry keys by going to Start > Run > REGEDIT

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Autodesk > Design Review
HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Autodesk > DWF Common
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Autodesk > Design Review
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Autodesk > DWF Common
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall > Autodesk Design Review 2010
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Uninstall > {55D9E026-DCB0-46FF-B60A-68B972228CF6}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Installer > UserData\S-1-5-18 > Products > 620E9D550BCDFF646BA0869B2722C86F

6) You can then try to install ADR once again. I am going to put a link below where you can find it on our website. On this page you will see two options for downloading the program. You want to choose the 'EXE' option. This will then download the entire program as well as all other files that it needs to run. This includes things like the proper version of .Net Framework and other necessary files. It is a large download, but I think it may be the best way for you to make sure you have all the correct files.

If the problem persists, please let us know:

Are these XP or Vista machines? 32 or 64 bit?

They are all XP, 32-bit machines.

Thanks for the steps and I will try that but the problem we are having is not just reinstalling. It is with installs that were working a couple weeks ago that now suddenly will not fire at all. Very random, scattered throughout various offices/users.

Hi,
Thank you for your feedback.
Did you update/remove the VC++ 2008/2005 Redistributable Service Pack in your machine during the time? For example, installed some kind of software which upgrades VC++ Redistributable Service Pack to a new version.

I was having a similar problem on one machine in our office. I went in and verified that all the windows updates had been applied. They had NOT been on this particular machine - I started by applying XP SP3, and worked down the line from DOTNet 3.5 SP1 to, well, suffice it to say it spent much of the morning updating itself. After all the updates were applied, I reinstalled ADR 2010 and it worked fine.
