iPart Display Style Problems

Attachment Color Box.ipt (192.0 KB)
Our iPart factorys are set up so that color is controlled using the Display Style Column setting within the iPart table. This used to work fine but, since installing Inventor Suite 2010, colors change correctly in ipart factory files but do not honour these settings in the member files or when placed into assemblies. The Display Style currently set within the iPart factory file seems to come through into all members. This has become a widespread problem throughout many iparts. I have atttached a simple example (Color Box.ipt).

Works here in 2010 Service Pack 1 Windows xp64 SP1. See this:

Do you have Inventor Service pack 1 installed?

Thanks for your reply. I didn't have SP1 installed but do now. SP1 didn't fix existing member files but when I deleted them and recreated them by inserting in an assembly they were correct. This is only a partial solution though as I've got lots of existing member files, and I don't want to have to delete then recreate them all. Shall I send you a data set that includes old and new member files so you can scrutinise what's going on?

Are you serious? Prior to installing Inv 2010 our iParts were all fine. We now have many members in need of repair. Identifying, deleting and then recreating all of these would taked many hours, and would also then require a great many broken links to be resolved. A better solution than this is required.

I have also posted this same error. Fortunately I do not use this feature very often, but agree this one needs sorting. Even if it means doing a re-migration of the files. (Or perhaps that would work in SP1 now anyway?)

Hi Dennis,

I have the same iPart child colour problem as this but installing SP1 for Inventor 2010 does not fix it unfortunately.

One difference could be that we have our iPart factories in a library.

We have isolated a bug in Inventor 2010 using Vault where the iParts are not found when loading the children in an assembly. The Vault path to the library is not correctly reported and selecting get from Vault or not makes no difference as it does not copy the files out of the vault and finds them anyway.

I have manually fixed all of the iPart children by performing a rebuild all on the iPart, selecting the iPart member with the correct colour an opening the relevant children and hitting update. Quite painful and time consuming task!

The problem we still have is that when changing components in an assembly the child will take the colour from the currently selected member in the iPart again as per the original problem reported here.

Any idea's on how to fix this as it has potential to undo all of colour fixes done so far?

Thanks,
Alasdair

We also have our iParts in a library.

Note that SP1 hasn't solved the problem for us - it's merely 'stopped the rot'. Many already rotten files in need of fixing.

Hi Autodesk

Any update on this problem yet? I think it is a fairly serious one that needs a hotfix.

Cheers, Neil.

We are having the same iPart color issue here.

We also have the library/iPart factory path error as well (actually includes library assembly paths too). Support Req entered for the path issue, anyone entered one for the iPart color issue yet?

Edit - Interestingly, I have SP1 (Pro) and colors don't display even after deleting and manually generating the files. The part preview appears correct but once placed the part reverts to whatever color the factory was set to.

Also interesting is that if you delete and try to recreate your children, any and all link to items in productstream are broken, sweet!

I wasn't aware of the support request option - how do we submit them?

I've entered a request on this issue. They sent me an iPart that works and I sent them one that doesn't. We'll see where it goes from there.
