I started using Autocad back with rel. 11 so i us a lot of the PGP file, and get reid of the icons that impead on drawing space.

i just upgraded to 2010 from 2008, skipped 2009 because of no added commands, i have found 2010 to be very slow reacting to any typed commands. Is 2010 the ice age for us old timers? or are we just a push button society?

Ok i have found the problem, i had placed the command line on my second monitor. i am spaning my screen between the to monitors and place the SSM, Xref, DesignCenter, Properties, Layer Manager, and Tool Palette on my second screen.

Are there any dual screen settings for Autocad?

I have heard it said that if you detach your command line, it
will start to crawl.  I think it has something to do with it no longer
being part of the main program focus.  Reattach it to the right
place.

I have and yes it is faster. i have also put all of the side fly outs back for the same reason, they just work faster.

will use other monitor for outlook and other programs.

I haven't had any problems with placing any of my palettes on
my second monitor yet, but they run natively as an external program
anyway.

Make sure your Dynamic Input is turned off.  Having it on
allows you to enter data in the drawing area, but the delay when processing
input is terrible.

Try DYNMODE set to 0.

Actually, I have found dynamic input on, command prompt off and press F2 when I need to see the command line makes things even faster than with the command line docked and dynamic input off.

And I type 90% of my commands as well.

I never said I don't use a command prompt, I just use the F2 function key to see it, it works so much faster. (There are times where I turn the command prompt back on as well, such as testing LISP routines).

The traditional command prompt just makes things slow, I am still looking for a good way to keep the text window on top, once I find that I will be doing really good.

It has some to do with all the flyouts anf the command line on the other monitor.

I moved the command line over and it was ok, but when i put the flyouts and thwe command line over it was slow.

Dynmode to 0 helps some but you still see a delay.

I think that the palettes and the command interpreter are
fighting over the active focus, depending on the location of the mouse.
The palettes were design to run in a special processing mode to allow non-modal
input, and I think this is where the conflict comes
in.
