Civil 3D users,
We are aware that of a crash on exit problem being experianced. We would very much like to get this problem addressed in a future service pack. If any of you are able to conistantly have this happen to you I would be very interesting in talking with you.
If you are able to help please contact me via email.

Thanks Matt,
We know which error message is being thrown, the Customer Error Report has been helpful in that regard. Unfortunatly what we are unable to do is reproduce the issue here. The important piece currently is finding out what users were doing before the error occured.
Thank Nick

This is probably going to be no help at all, but the pattern seems to be in our office that it happens frequently on a new installation, then eventually settles after a month and goes away. So if you grabbed a new PC and installed the software, you may get this happening to you, rather that trying to reproduce it on your machines that have had Civil3D running for a while.

I've been getting an error "Attempt to access AEC Services after Shutdown" almost constantly for the last week or so. This is a relatively new installation, and I am running Civil3D 10-12 hours a day. I haven't really paid much attention to what I have been doing, but the error seems to come only after longer sessions, and usually when I end a session with multiple drawings open.

This is frickin annoying. Apparently the solution to this problem is to have Nick and Dan call and ask you to reproduce the error. I was getting it regularly, and I had a crash while writing the email to ADesk with my drawings, then NOTHING! I have been trying to recreate the error all day and I can't figure it out, dammit.
Can anybody tell me what the AEC UI Services do, or how they are used by the program? It might give me an idea of what has changed to make the crash stop happening.

Maybe its them looking over the shoulder.. :)
Same thing here. Could not reproduce error either. Did it before...and after, just not during. Debugg process kept system from completeing the crash. I understand why they can not reproduce it in house.

Since Nick asked to email him, I did so. But I thought I would include what I wrote here, in case there are any similarities to others on the board:
The problem used to happen very consistently on my desktop computer (but never on my laptop, or on other civil 3d installations I have worked on), and lately not as much. One interesting thing about my desktop is that the hard drive uses "H:" for the drive letter, and the civil 3d installer really had a problem with that. I got around the issue by mapping a network drive to C:, then the installer would run. After Civil 3D was installed, I could never get it to run unless I had a C: drive available, even though no directories or files were written to that drive. I don't know if that has anything to do with the crash on close issue, but as far as I can tell the only thing different between my desktop and my laptop is the hard drive letter. I have never had the CER window come up after a crash on exit.

I can't really be much of a help, but I am experiencing this pretty frequently. I too haven't figured out what is causing it and I can't replicate it.
Everything in C3D seems to work fine before I get it and I receive no error message whatsoever or application hang. I would say 90% of the time it happens is when I am closing out of C3D at the end of the day. I close all my drawings and most of the time use File > Exit and as soon as C3D closes I get the "Error Report Submission" dialog.

I don't always get a CER report, but sometime after adding the Z Elevation button and loading that appropriate ARX file, I pretty much crash continually on exit. I don't see the harm, but I am sure that I "messed" a setting by doing so.

I don't know if this helps, but we get the fatal error upon exit quite often in map also. We had an issue with this in 2006 also and were able to get around it somewhat by making sure all drawings were closed before we existing the program. I know this is a little off topic, but hopefully it helps.

I usually get a fatal error on exit only if I have had 2005 and 2008 products open at the same time (i.e Civil 3d 2008 and Map 2005, for example). C3D will crash when I exit, but 05 won't.

Can't seem to reproduce it with support watching...

I have not seen any remarks to this effect-
My error (company wide), always goes to 0x00d8. The error I get can be avoided by **logging out of vault through toolspace before exiting Civil 3D**. Tried several combinations (time of app. running, #dwg's open and open/closed, checked in..etc). Support sugg. copy/rename .arx file in enu folder. Logging out dodged FE, but so what - had to manually logout.
Question is - Does ACAD/vault need pre-emptive logout and/or, is it really changing anything?

We are not using Vault at all, and we see this error probably 70% of the time.
There is no apparent rhyme or reason to why we see it maybe 2 out of 3 times, then do not see it the third time. I've been trying to notice things like "it only appears when we do something with parcels" or something like that, but I have yet to find ANY pattern to it. So far, it seems completely random.

Still getting it with SP2, but maybe not as often.
However, I almost always hear a Windows "error" ding when shutting down C3D, even when I do not get an error and the CER dialog.
