Polyline text?

Is there a way to convert text to a polyline? so when I put a solid hatch around it (an outline font), it will outline the text characters? this wont work with a regular font, the hatch fills in the space beneath the font. I need to do this, and the only way I know to do it is to more laboriously draw the text with a polyline, which will be somewhat difficult for rounded characters.

Im not sure if you are sugguesting something Im not understanding, but when I use such as 'Swiss 721 Black Outline BT (True Type)', it creates the outline I want, but when I put it inside an ellipse and solid hatch the inside of the ellipse, the hatch forms a rectangular block some distance around the text. What I want is for the solid hatch to surround each of the characters of the text, forming a hollowed out impression of each of the text characters, not around a rectangle around the entire word. As if one were looking at each of the characters cut out of a piece of paper. It doesnt seem to make any difference to use a TTF or SHX, I believe that is what I was initially using, that wouldnt work.

The choice of font would help identify how to explode the font: if you are not interested in spending money with Gary, let me know or search here, explode TTF fonts (what you are using) is free and costs nothing.

If I can explode True Type fonts, I would think that would have been my answer, to begin with. However, apparently it is not the same as the Explode command, as I have been using a TT font (Typeface = Swis721 BlkOul BT), and it doesnt explode using that command. So, how do I explode it?

To explode SHX, roundtrip the text through WMF format
(wmfout and wmfin, then rescale and explode).

For TTF font, plot to HPGL file (plottermanager to setup),
then use any free (or low cost) plt2dxf program out there to
convert and bring back in ( like the one from
http://www.noliturbare.com/index.php)

Lots of SHX fonts that look like TTF basic fonts, many are
perfect for what you need, and LT will run quicker too.

Enjoy.

Why don't you change your text colour to 255. That prints white. Also hatch the whole object, BUT send the solid hatch to the back, so it's behind the text

Addendum...won't work if you plot with "lines merge", like we do...
