wall display in plan

Please help I have a wall display issue I hope has a solution. I have a wall style that has 3 ½” stud with ½” gypsum board on either side. I do not want to show the gyp on my plan details just the stud thickness. The only thing in display settings (low detail) shows the wall at the overall 4 ½” instead of 3 ½”.
Is there a way within the display settings where I can hide the gypsum board and retain the stud visibility? If so can anyone explain how this is done? Or will I have to rely on layers to do this (freeze/thaw)?

If you set the gyp board width to -1/2" and the offset location against the stud, the wall will dimension to the stud and not the gyp board. Then you modify the display settings of the wall for each display style to have it on or off as you choose.

Turn off the display of the Shrink Wrap component and the GWB component and turn on the display of the Stud component.

Depending on your version, you may only need to turn on the Structural Display Configuration to get this. By default in the last few releases, the strucutral component of the wall has been isolated in a special display rep. Go to File > New and choose the Structural Model (Imperial Stb).dwt (there are also metric and CTB ones). In this file, draw a "Stud-4 GWB-0.625 Each Side" wall from the walls palette. Then turn on the Structural display configuration. In 2006, 2007 it worked correctly. Looks like some one goofed it up in 2008 here cause I had to go to the Display Manager, and edit the Plan Structural set and turn off Plan for Walls.
Anyhow, it is esentially the same thing that David suggested, it is just built that way OTB already.
As for dimensioning as suggested above, you don't need negative offsets in 2007 or 2008. Just edit the walls style and on the components tab, click the components you want to dimension.

Hi Paul and David,
Great tips. Thanks. On my 2007 and 2008 versions the structural display was messed up as well but thanks to your suggestions I've fixed my template. I wonder why they didn't extend the concept to refine the AEC dims. Would have been nice to see them have a structural display rep set to structural by style.

I have generally stayed away from building complex adt walls. Adding furring and GWB and then changing the display system to not display them gives funny results such as having toilets fixtures "disconnected" from walls. Unless there is a better method(s) that I am not aware of.

And because I'm quite proud of the AutoCAD Architecture team, here is a video of how this is hopefully much more intuitive in 2008. :) http://adt_blog.typepad.com/between_the_walls/2007/04/autocad_archite_1.htmlChris -- Chris Yanchar Product Design Manager AutoCAD Design & DWF Apps AEC Autodesk, Inc. wrote in message news:5544564@discussion.autodesk.com...
