Display manhole as single line in profile

The city standards where I work dictate that manholes are shown as single lines in profile. Civil3d doesn't seem to allow that, so I was wondering if anyone out there has figured out how to make it that way - possibly with Part Builder? I'm not familiar with that program so I'm confused with how to create that. I would prefer not having to trace over my Civil3d manholes with autocad lines which I have been doing. Thanks for any thoughts on this. Rob

Here's a workaround I discovered, for anyone else out there with the same profile requirement:
When editing the Structure Style Profile display tab, I selected “Block" rather than “Solid” or “Outline”. Then I created a block consisting of a simple line drawn vertically with the top of the line as the insertion point. The style would then draw the line like I want with the bottom terminating at the lowest pipe invert tied to the structure. At first it went lower than that point by 0.15m, which I discovered was the “Floor Thickness”. I then edited the Part Size options through “Part Builder” to add a “0” thickness option. So bottom-line, it’s doing what I want it to do.

Civil 3D has been able to do this for several releases now. Befine a block that is a straight vertical line, length does not matter. Edit your structure style, profile tab to use that block and the set sieze to Use fixed scale from part size.

Thanks Matt. Maybe you know of a workaround for a similiar situation: City Standards here dictate that pipes under 375mm be shown only with the bottom (invert) line of the pipe. I'm pretty sure (this time) that Civil3d doesn't allow that and Autodesk once told me that they intend to look into that. Do you have any interim solution I could try? Thanks alot for your input.

You're correct, Civil 3D will not do that. i've tried a few things and I just make the pipe style so that the invert and obvert do not plot. Then I just trace the invert with a poyline. Not dynamic, but pretty quick to update after your pipes are moved. Maybe someone else has a better plan, but I have not really found one. Thanks Matt. I like to use a profile layout, not only can you use slope labels, etc. but it makes it a snap if you need I.E. at short intervals for staking. (I don't speak metric, we aren't allowed to here in Mid-central U.S.) <G> Bill

To show the pipe invert as a single line you can also use the Flow Direction Arrow associated with the Pipe Label. Create a label style for the pipe to include the Flow Direction Arrow and set the anchor point to the Bottom Inner Diameter and set the arrow size to 0.01 Apply a Pipe Style that has no display in the profile and once you label the pipe the Flow Arrow will respresent your pipe invert as a single line Also, set the Dragged State to As Composed The invert will end at the centre of the structure but that works OK for those single line structures
You must be working in Calgary..

Hi Dave, yes my designs are per City of Calgary Standards. How did you know? Anyway I tried what you suggested. In fact I believe I tried this little trick the last time I was playing around with pipe networks in the 2008 version of Civil3d. As you can see by the attached jpeg that it does weird things:
Firstly, it attachs to the Top Inner Diameter eventhough I selected "Bottom Inner Diameter".
Secondly, it produces a simple offset of the centreline of the pipe which goes beyond the centre of the manhole - especially noticeable on steeper pipes. See first Jpeg. If I set it to anchor at the "Top Inner Diameter", then yes it draws the direction arrow at the bottom but not quite extended to the centre of the manhole (for the same reasons as above). See second Jpeg.
Thirdly, the direction arrow is not exactly shown over top of the inner diameter. It's just a hair off as you can see when comparing the white line shown (the direction arrow) to the dark grey lines (the actual pipe inner diameter).
I don't understand why this thing is so glitchy and doesn't do what you expect it to. Thanks for your suggestions however. Rob

That's why I didn't mention that trick. The steeper the pipe is the worse it gets. It's an OK workaround if you're only working with pipes and a very shallow grade.
