I'm so glad that I use Inventor

I have been using Inventor since R4. I got my hands on an evaluation copy of SW '08 Student Design Kit. I've been going through the tutorials trying to learn it. It takes me much longer to do anything with SW compared to IV, but I am just learning it. There are more clicks just to do simple commands.
One thing that I do like is the fillet (chamfer) command. Being able to pick a surface and the fillet(chamfer) goes all the way round it is pretty nice. Right now, that is the ONLY thing that I have found that I like better than Inventor.

I can't see your post, but I know exactly what you are showing.....I knew that. Time to turn off the computer and step away. A little OT, but I wonder why Autodesk does not push Inventor in advertisments like dessault pushes SW? Just about every design magazine that I get has ads for SW. Very seldom do I see Inventor ads. I was at a trade show in Vegas last week. SW had a booth there as well as several other CAD vendors. Autodesk was nowhere to be found.

I was basically told SW advertises because they are desperate and they have to in order to gain market share. Conversely, Inventor is such an amazing Titan, that no advertising is necessary. It was rather hard to concentrate on those explanations as the band started to play louder and the ship deck began to tilt rather noticeably.

Perhaps it is aginst Autodesk poilcy to advertise. What I know is that as I have been searching for jobs (to jump out of Civil into back into Manufacturing), I hear SO MUCH SW that I can't believe it.
I only know of 1 Company here in NW FL that uses Inventor. It's PRO-E, then SW, then CATIA, and then AutoCAD straight.
Seriously, I tried selling Inventor in Japan.
I love this product, it's amazing. I'm not a sales man, but I tried while I was there. Mostly so I would then be more employable.
I'd sweep floors at Autodesk before I would design at SolidWorks. (same pay of course).

I work at one of seven rather small companies that are part a holding company. My company is the only one that uses IV. Even more troubling is that I'm the only one in my company that actually uses IV! The vast majority of work all the companies do is still in plain 2D AutoCAD, but the solid modeling popularity contest was won by SW with IV (and me by association) not making it out of the auditions.

I don't know what you are talking about i see lots of jobs for IV in Florida. Jobs are all over the place, north ,south, Atlantic and gulf cost even the pan handle and gatter ally. All most all are requiring locals only and pay 17-25 hr for Sr Designers. Almost all were short contracts only, few direct hire jobs. Also at one time most were requiring 5 yrs experience when IV had only been out 4 yrs. I have found around 4 or 5 that were worth applying for, 2 told me i was not local, 1 changed the job description to an Illustrator and so on. Want out of Silicon Valley. Oh and by the way i started on IV way back in 2000.

Don't know about Okaloosa County, i'm hopefully going to be an Ex-Californian soon so i don't know about counties in Florida. But If you mean the job in Tallahassee, i never got the name of the company from the head hunter after submitting a resume. Last time i wasted my time talking to him the company was redefining the job title and description. I spent over 6 weeks working on this job, trying to get an interview and information on the company and job along with product,

Not sure if you wanted responses here Gary...
WinXP, SP2
Internet Explorer does not display pics, have to click on the link to download or view first - doesn't always work however, as JD mentioned I think it depends on the orientation of the planets or something.
On the nntp side; I cannot always establish a connection to download headers or retrieve messages. This is off and on all day. Seems I can connect about 50% of the time. During the time I cannot retrieve headers or messages, I am able to post messages however.
"Outlook Express" displays pictures and I can download other attachments
"Claws Mail" displays pictures and I can download other attachments
"Pan" displays pictures and I can download other attachments
For the nntp side, my comments are the same from a Linux O.S. concerning establishing a connection to retrieve headers and messages and the same comments I made about the "Claws Mail" and "Pan" newsreaders.
FYI,
Thanks for looking into for everybody.

I'm having two issues every day:
1. The forum will never, ever, "Remember Me" for login. I check the box and it ignores it.
2. Clicking on JPG files always forces a download of the jpg instead of opening it in the browser.
I'm using WinXP SP2 and FireFox 3... but that shouldn't really matter if the site was standards compliant.
By the way, to all those who prefer to use a news reader, great. I'm glad things work for you. I, for one, really prefer to use the http newsgroups.

msk Me too, but if I hit the tab key, IE7 fills in the password field correctly. Then I hit the Submit key and I'm in. As to why those two actions aren't done AUTOMATICALLY, I have no clue. I wonder if using Opera would work any better... Oh, and the slowness? It's not a bug, it's a feature! It allows one to pause and be self-introspective. Very Zen.

Using the web side exclusively, attachments are sometimes available and sometimes not, using both IE 6 (work) and Firefox 3 (home). Some days I can open attachments, some days I get the "An (sic) general error has occurred..." message on every attachment.
Echoing many other users, I would like graphic attachments (jpg, tiff, png, etc.) to open directly in the browser instead of another application.

Gary, You probably need to start a new thread on this topic, but since you asked..... here goes. 1. The only thing that I can do from the HTTP side is view messages. Notice I said messages, not images. Images are shown in the IE7 browser as the Square with a red "X" in the middle. I can right-click on the image name and chose "Open in new tab". The new tab opens and sometimes I can see the image, but most of the time I get a Jive Forum 5 error saying "An general error occurred while processing your request.". Very frustrating. 2. I have to login every freaking time I look at the newsgroup. I have the "Remember me" checked, but I still have to enter the password. 3. If I sign-out, then sign-in as a different user, at the top of the page it says "Welcome (my name here)". The name never changes. It always keeps the name of the first one that signed in. 4. The biggest issue that I have is not being able to post from my workstation. See my post from October 3 (More troubles with this forum). http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=6044403#6044403. When I try to post, I get an error in the bottom left corner that says "Error:Object doesn't support this property or method". 5. When viewing messages on the forum, all the text is ran together in the message. There is no spaces to seperate out the paragraphs. 6. When viewing the messages, all of the replys are left justified. There is no indentation to help identify which message the poster is replying to. Makes it very time consuming to read. Old forum had indentation. 7. When I add a thread to my watch list and something is added to the thread, I get an email letting me know something has been added to the thread and in the email the new text is shown. If the post was done from nttp, then I can read it. If the post was done from the http side, there is so much html formatting in the message it is not worth the while to try and figure it all out. When I click on the link in the email and go to the message, I have to read through the entire thread just to find what is new. On the old forum, the new messages were marked with the word NEW in red bold text. 8. If I post from the nttp side, on the left, it just shows my user id. Like where yours just says "Gary R. Smith\(...". If I post from the http side, it shows my user id as well as total number of posts and registered date. Doesn't really matter, just be consistent. UPDATE:
The team is actively working on the intermittent attachment problem and the line break issue.
I suspect there are going to be classes of issues that will exist for some readers/browsers/operating systems that will not be resolved any time soon.
It was pointed out that spam volume is approaching zero - for which I am grateful.
I would encourage you to continue being patient and if you are experiencing issues: please post with as many specifics as possible.
Thanks!

This is posted to the Help page accessible from the web-side:
Forums Help
Known Issues
Your continued patience is appreciated as we work to resolve the following issues. We understand the impact these issues have on your productivity, and want to assure you we are aggressively working to resolve.
1. Rich text interface text field doesn't always display when replying to a post. Workaround: use back button to refresh page and attempt to repost again. 2. Message line breaks not preserved. Workaround for new posts: use Rich Text interface 3. Attachments not consistently accessible.
We value your feedback. The Discussion Group & User Community feedback form is available to contact us.
Resolved Issues
10/22: "Up one category" navigation. In some instances this was linking back to the homepage incorrectly. 10/22: Incorrect prompt for login while attempting to search - login failed when userID and password entered. 10/7: Sign in screen fails to load. We discovered that some popup or advertisement blockers add-ons can affect the sign in "overlay" screen from loading. You'll need to configure these add-ons to allow activities on Autodesk sites. Note: Autodesk sites do not contain third-party popup advertisements or unwanted items typically blocked by these tools. 10/7: Search collection was not being generated correctly so users could not search/find all content. Note: default search is 90 days. From the search results you use the advanced search options to refine your search by broader date range and other factors

Gary, Thanks for the update. Just to let you know, I can now post using your "workaround". Here is what I have done. Hopefully it may help others. 1. Enabled cookies. See http://www.betfred.com/help/static/cookiehelp_ie.htm. This is how I did it. 2. When I reply to a post, the rich text interface is not shown. I hit the "back" arrow, then the "forward" arrow. Now the rich text interface is shown. Hopefully this will be resolved soon and we will not have to use the workaround (too many of them already). Thanks P.S. I would like to add that it is not easy to get to the "watched messages". Now we have to navigate to "Your Control Panel", then click on the "Your Watches". After you are here, you can't easily get back to the forum. There is a link there that will carry you back to the forum index. You have to then navigate through all the pages just to get back to the forum. Takes too long. They need to put the watch list back out in the front like it was before.

Glad that you are having a better experience.
Note - the workaround has been suggested by the team supporting our message boards.

LOL! Good one JD! I don't know if you meant that as a joke, but when I clicked your link I got a message: Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site I don't know whether the website upgrades are a comedy or a trajedy BTW - to the OE users, it may work, but my preference (in general for forums) is the web interface. I can check it from home and work and not have to download all the posts.

What a disaster. Besides doubling the post what should be a simple ctrl v brought up another dialog box and then added extraneous space between amazon . com

I have been using Windows Mail (OE successor). IMHO, the web interface is almost useless. However, since the "improvements" any posts that have an attachment show up as "message could not be displayed" in windows mail... Cory McConnell What a disaster. Besides doubling the post what should be a simple ctrl v brought up another dialog box and then added extraneous space between amazon . com

I have also complained about the ctrl v BS.. It just seems stupid to have to open another dialog box just to do something simple like copy and paste.
This site and its implementation is a total mess..
